Mini Medical School

The Mini Medical School is a 7-week course held in June-July each year in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. Each course is limited to a maximum of 10 students, the minimum age being 21 years of age. It is not necessary to have done a DTS or CDTS to participate in this course.

 

 The Course
- Students completing the course will be equipped to be primary health care workers in developing countries.
Aims to equip those who desire to learn how to provide basic health care in third world situations where it is difficult for people to access health care and where resources are limited.
- Targets especially those called to the mission field – either currently serving or future missionaries.
- Equips students to assess patients, and to identify and treat common conditions.
- Includes lectures, practical sessions and medical outreaches.
- Includes topics such as child health, common diseases, tropical diseases, nutrition, medication, surgery, wound care and suturing, dentistry, antenatal care, history taking and examination, and preventative medicine. Part of the course will be following The World Health Organization’s guidelines for the Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI).
- A "Certificate of Achiement" is awarded by Mercy Link at the completion of the course. The Health Organization recognizes the attendance and completion of each student with a certificate for training in The Integrated Management of Childhood Illness.
